National 5 Maths: Functions

Course content

  • Use functional notation \(f(x)\)
  • Find \(f(x)\) when \(x\) is given
  • Find \(x\) when \(f(x)\) is given.

Key ideas

  • A function is just a rule to calculate an output when we know the input.
  • The input is always in the brackets, eg. \(f(x)\), \(f(a)\), \(f(6)\). The \(x\), \(a\) and \(6\) are the inputs.
